In Academia Gustavo-Carolina (1690-1710) the administration wished to establish an observatory for the university but because of the events of the Northern War the efforts failed. The professor of mathematics and astronomy Sven Dimberg (1661-1731) already in the academic year 1693/94 acquainted his students with Newton’s system of the world (the book “Philosophiae principia naturalis mathematica” had been published in London in 1687) at his lectures which were the first known university lectures on the theme.
