Ernst Öpik presented the theory of physical processes taking place during the flight of the meteor in atmosphere.

The study of meteors was Öpik’s favorite theme and this research has given him most noteworthy recognition. At the same time he has been both an active observer and the creator of the theory of physical processes taking place during the flight of meteors. Öpik studied meteors with the help of strict statistical methods using among other things the method of double counting which he himself created (two parallel counters were applied).
