In the University Treasury we display the treasures of the alma mater, which tell the stories of our people, studies and scientific achievements. As a result of makeover in November 2018, the focus is on the fields of study at the University of Tartu and the scientific advances that have occurred there throughout the centuries.
The exhibition space is divided into five sections. The objects in the central section of the hall speak about the administrative history of the university. Here you will find stories that are connected to the founding of the university, the people who have led it, and various symbols of authority. The side walls are divided according to the faculties of the university: the Humanities and Art, the Social Sciences, Medical Sciences and Natural and Exact Sciences. The hall also includes the university’s news innovative ideas and inventions.
The engaging interior design solution for the University Treasury highlights precious objects and those with interesting stories to tell; and is also appropriate for the display of fragile and sensitive materials. The floor is covered with the quotations of the university’s scientists in the languages used at the university through the ages.
The spatial design by KAOS Architects won the 2013 Cultural Endowment of Estonia Award for interior architecture.
