Soirees in the most magnificent example of Baltic brick gothic – Tartu Cathedral

The University of Tartu Museum offers a unique opportunity to spend an educative and fun evening in the monumental cathedral on the Cathedral Hill. Each soiree is comprised of educational/participative, active and fun components, that amount to a lively and dynamic evening. The duration and arrangement of the components can be customised as per your wishes.

1. Soiree of Georg Friedrich Parrot – the first rector of the University

Educational and participative component: The first rector of Tartu University will tell stories and legends about the 19th century university. Followed by a visit to the Cathedral’s treasury, housing the most precious objects of Tartu University Museum.

Active component: Torchlight procession on the Cathedral Hill or Candlelight visit to the church towers.

Fun component: Georg Friedrich Parrot offers champagne to the guests and gives a closing speech!

2. Cathedral – the most magnificent example of Baltic brick gothic architecture

Educational and participative component: Introduction to the past of the monumental medieval cathedral led by guides straight from the middle ages. Followed by a visit to the Cathedral’s burial chamber that is one of a kind in Estonia.

Active component: Torchlight procession on the Cathedral Hill or Candlelight visit to the church towers.

Fun component: Cinnamon sugared almonds and mulled wine offered according to the customs of the medieval citizens of Tartu.

3. 19th century Students' Night in the cathedral: Kram-bim-bam-bambuli

Educational and participative component: A journey to the past guided by a 19th century student of Tartu University

Active component: Torchlight procession on the Cathedral Hill or Candlelight visit to the church towers.

Fun component: Preparing and drinking of Krambambula and singing of the song dedicated to this legendary beverage.

4. Soiree of the Nobel Prize winner Wilhelm Ostwald

Educational and participative component: Journey to the scientific past of Tartu University guided by the Nobel Prize winner Wilhelm Ostwald

Active component: Torchlight procession to the Old Anatomical theatre.

Fun Component: Wilhelm Ostwald offers champagne to the guests in honour of Tartu University. Symbolic awarding of the Nobel Prize!
